A three-day long MIDAS SME Fair-2024 began on Thursday in Dhaka city, aiming to encourage youth and women entrepreneurs to advance in their entrepreneurial journey.
Organised by Micro Industries Development Assistance and Services (MIDAS), the fair is being held on the 10th floor of MIDAS Center in the capital’s Dhanmondi. A total of 60 youth and women entrepreneurs are participating in the fair, showcasing and selling their products, including clothing, jewellery, handicrafts and foods. Ali Imam Majumder, chairman of MIDAS Finance, inaugurated the fair. Member of MIDAS board of directors Parveen Mahmud, Managing Director of MIDAS M Khairul Bashar, and Assistant Managing Director Md Ibrahim Hossain, among others, were present at the time. After the inauguration, Ali Imam Majumder told reporters that the main drive of the fair is to promote SME products of women entrepreneurs, enhance production and exhibition of quality SME products and facilitate introduction of SME goods to expand business, trade and commerce. He said MIDAS will continue to help entrepreneurs grow.
Parveen Mahmud, also former chairman of MIDAS, told The Financial Express that they will create a platform with the budding women entrepreneurs after the fair to strengthen their capacity. She said MIDAS has been financing and providing training to women entrepreneurs for many years. Though 60 entrepreneurs are participating in the fair, many others had to be excluded due to space constraints, according to the former chairman of MIDAS. She said they will award a number of entrepreneurs who have performed well. Ms Mahmud added that MIDAS will train entrepreneurs about emerging technology, environment friendliness and compliance in the future.
The fair is open to visitors from 10 am to 9 pm.
