Parveen Mahmud FCA elected the new Chairman of MIDAS
The Thirty-Second Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Micro Industries Development Assistance and Services (MIDAS) was held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the MIDAS head office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. During the meeting, the MIDAS Board of Directors elected Ms. Parveen Mahmud FCA as the new Chairman in its 373rd Board Meeting. Ms. Zahida Ispahani, the outgoing Chairman, formally welcomed Ms. Mahmud on behalf of the MIDAS Board.
The AGM was attended by members of the MIDAS General Body and the Board of Directors, including Mr. Bazlur Rahman Khan, Ms. Sabina Alam, Mr. Abdul Karim, Dr. S. M. Akbar, Mr. Ghulam Rahman, Dr. Abdul Karim, Mr. Maniruzzaman Chowdhury, Ms. Zareen Mahmud Hosein, FCA and Mr. Rajiv Prasad Shaha, who joined virtually.
Ms. Parveen Mahmud FCA brings a wealth of experience and leadership to her new role. Currently serving as the Chairperson of Shasha Denims Ltd.. She has held key leadership positions, including Founding Managing Director of Grameen Telecom Trust and Deputy Managing Director of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). With a distinguished career spanning social innovation, entrepreneurship, and grassroots sustainable development, Ms. Mahmud has also worked as a practicing Chartered Accountant. Ms. Mahmud has the distinction of being the first female President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) in 2011 and the first female board member of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA). She served three terms on the ICAB Council and was the Founding Chairperson of the CA Female Forum-Women in Leadership Committee until 2019. She also held the position of Vice Chairperson of the Women in Leadership Committee of SAFA from 2018 to 2020. A prominent member of various boards, Ms. Mahmud served on the governing bodies of organizations such as BRAC International, PKSF. She is serving in the Board of Manusher Jonnyo Foundation, the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Bishsho Shahitto Kendro and Cider International School, among others. She is an Independent Director at Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd., and Marico Bangladesh Ltd., and has previously served as Chairperson of Underprivileged Children’s Education Program (UCEP),RDRS Bangladesh and the Acid Survivors’ Foundation. Ms. Mahmud’s contributions to SME development are significant, having been a member of the National Advisory Panel for SME Development in Bangladesh and a founding board member of the SME Foundation. She has received several awards for her work in social development and women’s empowerment, including the Chittagong Digest Women’s Day 2020 Award, Anannya Top Ten Women-2018 Award, Joya Alokito Nari-2018 Award from RTV, Women at Work-2017 Award from BASIS, Women of Inspiration Awards-2017 from BOLD, and the Rokeya Shining Personality Award-2006 from Narikantha Foundation. Ms. Mahmud’s election as Chairman of MIDAS marks a significant milestone in the organization’s journey, reflecting its commitment to inclusive and impactful development under her visionary leadership.
